The Holton BBb 3 Valve Tuba Built in 1914
This Holton BBb 3 valve tuba was built in 1914, with a natural brass finish polished with salt and vinegar. It was purchased by Dave Sevy in 1960 from a Selmer Representative, who found the tuba in Billings, Montana where it had been stored in an attic since it was played by the Billings City Band in 1915. Dave Sevy played this tuba as a practice instrument while a member of the 25th Army band from 1960-1977.
While Dave was teaching instrument repair school in Spokane Falls Community College, he disassembled the tuba completely, removed all the dents, and polished and lacquered the Tuba during the term of the course and played the Holton Tuba in the graduation ceremonies at Spokane Falls Community College in June of 1977.
The old Holton Tuba has been proudly displayed in the window of MusiCare since 1982, it has been played in numerous Tuba Christmas Concerts and 4th of July parades.
